Is Ammonium Tallate vegan?

Ammonium Tallate is the ammonium salt of tall oil fatty acids, a byproduct of wood pulp processing (kraft process) from pine trees, but the fatty acid fraction of tall oil often includes animal-independent plant sterols; however, tall oil is plant/tree derived, not animal. It is used as a surfactant and emulsifier.
