Benzoyl peroxide is a synthetic organic peroxide compound used as a flour treatment (bleaching) agent in food and as an acne treatment in cosmetics/pharmaceuticals. It is approved by Codex Alimentarius and the US FDA (INS 928), though not currently listed as an EU-approved food additive under that number.
