Carotene is a group of orange-yellow pigments (tetraterpenoids) found naturally in plants, particularly in carrots, leafy greens, and other vegetables. It serves as a precursor to vitamin A and is used as a natural food colourant and antioxidant. Commercial carotene may be plant-extracted or synthetically produced.
