Linoleic acid is an essential omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid with the formula CH3(CH2)4CH=CHCH2CH=CH(CH2)7COOH. It is found abundantly in plant-based oils (such as sunflower, soybean, and safflower oil) and is widely used in cosmetics and supplements. Commercial sources are predominantly plant-derived.
