Methyl Green is a synthetic cationic triarylmethane dye used for staining DNA in histology and cytology since the 19th century. It is used as part of the Unna-Pappenheim stain and as a nuclear counterstain, and has fluorescent properties useful for far-red live-cell imaging. It is also used in combination with pyronin to differentiate DNA and RNA.
