Is Tartrazine vegan?

Tartrazine is a synthetic lemon-yellow azo dye widely used as a food and cosmetic colorant. It is produced by chemical synthesis and is not derived from biological or mineral sources. In the United States it is known as FD&C Yellow No. 5.
