Is Tropaeolin O vegan?

Tropaeolin O (Chrysoine resorcinol) is a synthetic azo dye formerly used as a food additive, banned in Europe in 1977 and in the US in 1988. It is used as an acid-base indicator and as a biological stain. It is produced entirely from synthetic precursors.
