Tyrian Purple is a reddish-purple natural dye secreted by several species of predatory sea snails in the family Muricidae, historically prized as a luxury colourant. The active colouring compound is 6,6'-dibromoindigo. Its production requires harvesting and killing large numbers of molluscs.
