Is Ambergris vegan?

Ambergris is a waxy, solid substance produced in the intestine of the sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus). Historically used as a fixative in perfumery, it has largely been replaced by synthetic alternatives. Its use is restricted or banned in many countries due to whaling regulations.
