Is Arbutin vegan?

Arbutin (beta-arbutin) is a glycosylated derivative of hydroquinone naturally present in the leaves and bark of various plants, notably bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi). It is used in cosmetics for its skin-lightening effects.
