Astrakhan (also known as karakul or Persian lamb) is the pelt of stillborn or very young lambs of the Karakul sheep breed, originating from the Astrakhan region of Russia. It is used in the luxury fur trade. The pelt is exclusively animal-derived and its production is ethically controversial.
