Benzyl Violet (Acid Violet 49; Food Violet 2) is a synthetic triarylmethane dye formerly used as a food and cosmetic colorant. It has been classified by the IARC as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B) and its use as a food additive has been discontinued in many jurisdictions.
