Caustic sulfite caramel (E150b) is a dark brown food colorant produced by heating food-grade carbohydrates in the presence of sulfite compounds. It is similar to plain caramel (E150a) but produced with sulfite reagents to modify its properties. The carbohydrate source is plant-derived.
