Ceramide 2 (retired INCI name) is an N-acylated sphingolipid with the erythro structure, part of the ceramide family of waxy lipid molecules composed of sphingosine and a fatty acid. This designation was retired in 2014, with trade names now assigned to either Ceramide NS or Ceramide NG; ceramides used in cosmetics may be derived from plant, animal, or synthetic/biotechnological sources depending on the manufacturer.
