Ceramide 6 II (retired INCI name, now Ceramide AP) is an N-acylated phytosphingosine with the erythro structure, part of the ceramide family of lipid molecules composed of a fatty acid joined to a sphingoid base by an amide bond. Ceramides occur naturally in the skin's lipid barrier and can be produced synthetically or derived from plant, animal, or microbial sources.
