Creosote oil is a distillate of coal tar, historically used as a wood preservative and antiseptic; restricted in cosmetics due to carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon content such as benzo[a]pyrene.

An ingredient is considered vegan if it contains no animal-derived components at any point in its production.
