Dimethyl sulfide is an organosulfur compound with the formula (CH3)2S, the simplest thioether, with a characteristic disagreeable odor. It occurs naturally as a breakdown product of dimethylsulfoniopropionate and is also produced synthetically for use as a flavoring and fragrance ingredient.
