Is Escargot vegan?

Escargot refers to cooked edible land snails, a food ingredient commonly used in French and Mediterranean cuisine. Snails are molluscs and their use as an ingredient involves the killing of animals. Escargot and snail-derived ingredients (including snail secretion filtrate used in cosmetics) are neither vegan nor vegetarian.
