Hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) is a non-ionic cellulose ether produced by reacting cellulose (from plant sources) with propylene oxide in an alkaline environment. It is used as a thickener, emulsifier, film-former, and tablet coating agent in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.
