Alcian Blue 8GX (CI 74240) is a synthetic polyvalent basic dye widely used in histology to stain acidic polysaccharides such as glycosaminoglycans, mucopolysaccharides, and the sialylated glycocalyx of cells. Tissue components stained by this dye appear blue to bluish-green and are termed alcianophilic; it can be combined with H&E, PAS, and van Gieson staining methods.
