Inositol is a polyol carbohydrate belonging to the vitamin B complex (sometimes informally called vitamin B8). It is found in virtually all plant and animal tissues and is commercially produced from both sources, most commonly extracted from corn. It is used as a dietary supplement and in cosmetic formulations.
