Microcrystalline wax is a petroleum-derived wax characterised by fine crystals, in contrast to the larger crystals of paraffin wax. It consists of high-molecular-weight saturated aliphatic hydrocarbons and is used as a viscosity-increasing agent and emollient in cosmetics.
