Orotic acid is a pyrimidinedione carboxylic acid, an intermediate in pyrimidine biosynthesis; once mistakenly called vitamin B13, it is now known not to be a vitamin and is used in cosmetics as a conditioning agent, typically produced synthetically or via fermentation.
