Phospholipids are a class of lipids with a hydrophilic phosphate-containing head and two hydrophobic fatty acid tails, used in cosmetics as emollients and emulsifiers. They can be derived from plant sources (e.g. soy, sunflower), animal sources (e.g. egg yolk, marine sources), or produced synthetically.
