Quinizarin (1,4-dihydroxyanthraquinone) is an organic compound derived from anthraquinone, appearing as an orange or red-brown crystalline powder. It occurs in small amounts in the root of the madder plant (Rubia tinctorum) and can also be produced synthetically. It is used as a dye intermediate and analytical reagent.
