Rhododendrol is a naturally occurring phenolic compound found in plants such as Rhododendron, also produced synthetically; it was developed as a tyrosinase inhibitor for skin-lightening cosmetics but was withdrawn after causing skin depigmentation (leukoderma) in some users.
