Is Schizophyllan vegan?

Schizophyllan is a neutral extracellular polysaccharide (β-1,3-glucan with β-1,6 branching) produced by fermentation of the fungus Schizophyllum commune. It is used in cosmetics as a film-forming and moisturizing agent.

An ingredient is considered vegan if it contains no animal-derived components at any point in its production.
