Is Sudan I vegan?

Sudan I is a synthetic orange-red azo dye used to colour waxes, oils, petrol, solvents, and polishes. Although historically used as a food colourant, it has been banned from food use in many countries due to its classification as a category 3 carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer.
