Sulfite ammonia caramel (E150d) is a dark brown food colorant produced by heating food-grade carbohydrates in the presence of both sulfite and ammonium compounds. It is the most widely used caramel colour class, commonly found in colas and sauces. The carbohydrate source is plant-derived.
