Urolithin A is an organic compound formed through the gut bacterial metabolism of ellagitannins and ellagic acid, precursors found widely in edible plants such as pomegranates, strawberries, raspberries and walnuts. It belongs to the dibenzo-alpha-pyrone (benzo-coumarin) class of compounds and is used as an active ingredient for its antioxidant properties.
