Phloxine B is a water-soluble red synthetic dye derived from fluorescein, used for colouring drugs and cosmetics in the United States and food in Japan. It differs from fluorescein by the presence of four bromine atoms and four chlorine atoms on its ring systems. It is also used as an antimicrobial substance, viability dye, and biological stain.
