Is Algae vegan?

Algae (retired INCI name) is a plant material obtained from various species of algae, a diverse group of photosynthetic aquatic organisms ranging from microscopic microalgae to large seaweeds. This INCI designation was retired in 2015 in favour of genus/species-specific names.

An ingredient is considered vegan if it contains no animal-derived components at any point in its production.
