Acridine Orange (CI 46005) is a synthetic organic nucleic acid-selective fluorescent dye with cationic properties, used in cell biology for cell cycle determination. It is cell-permeable and interacts with DNA by intercalation and with RNA via electrostatic attractions, and is spectrally similar to fluorescein sodium when bound to DNA.
