Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the CheckVegan website and services ("Service") operated by CheckVegan ("we", "us", "our"). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. The service

CheckVegan provides a free ingredient checker and ingredient glossary, and hosts vegan verification reports issued by third-party verification platforms. The Service includes:

  • a free ingredient checker and searchable glossary covering thousands of ingredients and materials;
  • automated ingredient classification against the CheckVegan ingredient database;
  • a public lookup for vegan verification reports, each with a permanent URL and QR code, issued by a third-party verification platform.

2. Accounts and certification

CheckVegan does not require an account to use the ingredient checker, glossary, or report lookup. Vegan certification, including account creation, ingredient list submission, and supplier documentation, is provided by a third-party verification platform. Your use of that platform is governed by its own terms of service.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • misrepresent the scope or result of a vegan verification report hosted on CheckVegan;
  • submit false or misleading content through the ingredient issue report form;
  • attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or systematically extract data from the Service;
  • use the Service for any unlawful purpose.

4. Verification reports

Vegan verification reports hosted on CheckVegan are issued by a third-party verification platform, not by CheckVegan. A report confirms that the submitted ingredient list was checked against the relevant ingredient database on the date shown, and that no confirmed animal-derived ingredients were detected among matched entries.

Reports do not constitute a guarantee that a product is free of all animal-derived substances. Ingredients classified as "dual-origin" or "unknown" are flagged in the report and may require additional supplier documentation, handled by the issuing verification platform, to resolve.

The accuracy of a submitted ingredient list is the responsibility of the brand and the verification platform that issued the report. CheckVegan accepts no liability for errors in report content it did not generate.

Reports are valid for 12 months from the date of issue, as set by the issuing verification platform.

5. Public reports

Verification reports are hosted at a permanent public URL on checkvegan.org. This URL and its contents may be indexed by search engines and shared publicly. You accept that verification reports, once issued, form a permanent part of the public record and cannot be deleted, though they can be marked as expired.

6. Intellectual property

The CheckVegan ingredient checker, glossary, ingredient database, and platform software are owned by CheckVegan. The ingredient data is made available for use within the Service. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or commercialise it outside the Service without written permission.

Vegan verification reports hosted on CheckVegan remain the property of the issuing verification platform and the certified brand.

7. Limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, CheckVegan disclaims all warranties, express or implied, including as to the accuracy of ingredient classifications or of verification reports issued by third-party verification platforms. We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including reliance on the ingredient checker or on hosted verification reports for commercial or regulatory purposes.

8. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be communicated on this page. Continued use of the Service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

9. Governing law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of California, USA, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
