Carbomer is a synthetic high-molecular-weight polymer of acrylic acid, crosslinked with a polyalkenyl polyether such as allyl ethers of pentaerythritol. It is widely used in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals as a thickening, gelling, and stabilizing agent.
