Disperse Yellow 42 (4-anilino-3-nitrobenzenesulfonanilide) is a nitro disperse dye primarily used to dye polyester fibres. It is prepared by reacting two equivalents of aniline with 4-chloro-3-nitrobenzenesulfonyl chloride, and was produced on the largest scale of any nitro dye, with an estimated 10,000 tonnes prepared in 1990.
