Fucose is a deoxy hexose sugar found in glycoproteins and glycolipids of many organisms, including plants, animals and seaweeds, and is the key building block of the seaweed polysaccharide fucoidan. For cosmetic use it is typically produced via plant-derived or biotechnological synthesis rather than from animal sources.
