This copolymer, known as PHBV, is a biodegradable polyhydroxyalkanoate polyester produced by bacterial fermentation (e.g. Cupriavidus necator) of glucose and propionic acid, combining 3-hydroxybutanoic acid and 3-hydroxypentanoic acid units.
