Lanolin is a wax-like substance (wool grease) extracted from the wool of sheep by washing the fleece. It is a complex mixture of esters, diesters, and hydroxy esters of fatty acids and long-chain alcohols. It is widely used in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals as an emollient, moisturiser, and emulsifier.
