Laureth-9 is an ethoxylated fatty alcohol (9 moles ethylene oxide) derived from dodecanol (lauryl alcohol), used as a surfactant and emulsifier in cosmetics. The parent alcohol may be plant, animal, or synthetically derived; a related compound is used medically as polidocanol.
