Nile Red is a synthetic lipophilic fluorescent dye derived from Nile Blue by oxidative transformation. It is used to stain intracellular lipid droplets and is highly solvatochromic, exhibiting emission colours ranging from deep red to yellow-gold depending on solvent polarity.
