Low-temperature heat-treated coal tar pitch is a complex residue obtained from the distillation of coal tar, used industrially in coatings and electrodes. It is a mineral-derived, non-animal substance that may contain carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons such as benzo[a]pyrene.

An ingredient is considered vegan if it contains no animal-derived components at any point in its production.
