Pramocaine is a synthetic topical local anesthetic and antipruritic agent, chemically distinct from amino amide and amino ester anesthetics, discovered at Abbott Laboratories in 1953. It works by blocking sodium ion permeability in neuronal membranes, numbing sensation.
