Sodium lactate is the sodium salt of lactic acid, used as a humectant, moisturiser, and preservative in cosmetics and as an acidity regulator in food (E325). Lactic acid can be derived from plant-based fermentation or from animal sources, giving sodium lactate a dual-origin classification.
