Pyranine is a hydrophilic, pH-sensitive fluorescent synthetic dye from the arylsulfonate group, soluble in water. It is used as a colouring agent, biological stain, optical detecting reagent, and pH indicator, and is the fluorescent component in yellow highlighters. It is also known as D&C Green 8 or Solvent Green 7.
