Sudan Red G is a yellowish-red lysochrome azo dye that appears as an odorless reddish-orange powder with a melting point of 225 °C. It is soluble in fats and used for coloring fats, oils, and waxes, as well as in polystyrene, cellulose, and synthetic lacquers. It has also been used in hair dyes and temporary tattoos, though it can cause contact dermatitis.
