Is Stearate vegan?

Stearate is the salt or ester form of stearic acid (octadecanoic acid). The term is used generically to describe compounds formed when stearic acid is neutralized with a base or esterified with an alcohol. The stearic acid may be derived from animal tallow or vegetable oils, making the origin variable.
