Is Thaumatin vegetarian?

Thaumatin is an intensely sweet protein extracted from the katemfe fruit (Thaumatococcus daniellii), a plant native to West Africa. It is used as a sweetener and flavour modifier in food and beverage products, and is approximately 2000–3000 times sweeter than sucrose by weight.

An ingredient is considered vegetarian if it avoids components derived from killing an animal.
