Urea (carbamide) is an organic compound and the primary nitrogen-containing metabolic waste product of protein catabolism in mammals, excreted in urine. Commercially, it is almost exclusively produced synthetically from ammonia and carbon dioxide and is used in fertilizers, cosmetics as a moisturizer, and pharmaceuticals.
