Is Vegetable Carbon vegan?

Vegetable carbon is a black colorant produced by the incomplete combustion or charring of plant-based materials such as wood, peat, or coconut shells. It is used as a food colorant and in cosmetics, and should be distinguished from animal-derived carbon black.
